Florida Democrats say the way the state publishes their registration numbers is unfair and misleading and that recent changes to state law have made it harder for them to register new voters. But even though an overall decrease in voter registration has brought down registration numbers across party lines, the reality is that Republicans are still out-registering Democrats.

Just before launching his campaign in March for a Florida House seat representing south Miami-Dade County, Alian Collazo reported that he’d moved out of the house he owns in the Tampa Bay area and into a new residence inside the district: the family home of his former boss and longtime friend, state Sen. Alexis Calatayud.​

Restaurant owner Irina Vilarino is a qualified candidate for the Doral City Council, a judge determined Thursday after a hearing about her residency that followed a complaint from the CEO of the city’s chamber of commerce.​

Though many residents say they support the plan, more than 450 people have signed a petition rejecting the idea. Some opposing residents have said the plan unfairly restricts residents with limited visitor passes for large events.​

The 35-foot tall small cell towers, which are smaller than traditional cell towers, are intended to increase connectivity and enhance wireless coverage in the surrounding area. Kendall residents have been battling the construction of the towers for months, saying they worry about the potential health risks and effect on property values.

Ahead of the game, thousands of fans, many of whom did not have tickets, stormed the security gates and found alternate ways to get into the venue. Officials opened the gates to a whirlwind of spectators, leading the stadium to surpass capacity., leaving many fans with tickets left waiting outside.​

The program would require residential parking permits in certain zones in the North Miami Beach area in an attempt to ease parking troubles for the residents in zones with many apartment and condo buildings.

Following years of legal setbacks, internal strife and declining revenue, the National Rifle Associationreported spending $540,000 in federal lobbying spending during the first quarter of 2024 — the least amount of money the group has spent at the start of a year since 2009.

OpenSecrets’ annual K Street College Classic bracket shows which teams would win each round of March Madness based on each school’s federal lobbying expenditures last year.

Altogether, candidates poured nearly $94 million into self-funding their campaigns in 2023, according to reports available through Feb. 22. This is slightly less than the $118 million that candidates had self-financed at the same point in the 2022 election cycle.

As the National Football League prepares for the Super Bowl LVIII, year-end reports show that the league continues to lead the recreation and live entertainment industry in federal lobbying spending. The NFL’s $1.46 million in 2023 federal lobbying spending exceeded its prior year lobbying spending, up from $1.33 million in 2022.

Since the landmark Supreme Court ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization that overturned the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, abortion rights have been under threat in various states. As certain states attempt to pass legislation either protecting or banning abortion, lobbying from groups on both sides of the issue has also been on the rise.

New reports by the U.S. Census Bureau and Care.com indicate that child care costs are continuing to rise. Surging child care costs have ignited policy change to ease barriers to help lower the barriers for candidates with young children to run for office.

The policy outlines parameters for students, faculty and staff to follow “when engaging in free speech and peaceful demonstration.” Found in the student handbook, the policy was rewritten in 2017. The last time the University’s demonstration policy was rewritten was before 1980.

Athletics defined Tamara Bohlig’s Northwestern experience. A varsity field hockey player for four years and varsity lacrosse player for three, Tamara Bohlig (Weinberg ‘91, Kellogg ‘97) spent much of her time in Evanston at practice and games.

The award recognizes the work of Latine multimedia journalists and has been given since 2019 by Medill and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. Félix, the fourth recipient of the award, is a freelance journalist based in Arizona who has dedicated her career to connecting members of the Latine community.

After Friday’s Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, several Northwestern professors across various disciplines gathered virtually to discuss implications of the decision on both a local and national level. The webinar featured submitted questions from media outlets in attendance.

The group recently celebrated its 79th show with the production of “Merrily We Roll Along.” The Dolphin Show originally served as a fundraiser for a Northwestern men’s swim group, and the show premiered in a pool. In 1963, the show shifted out of the pool, and, in 1970, onto the stage.

Since SESP senior Christian Wade and Medill junior Adaeze Ogbonna won Associated Student Government’s presidential race in the spring, they’ve worked to fulfill their platform promises.

Following graduation, Shah studied as a Hindu monk for two years, and now wants to share the knowledge he acquired in his training, he said. Shah added that his main goal as chaplain is to provide pastoral care and guidance through a Hindu perspective.
